The Times filed a lawsuit arguing the Pentagon's requirement that journalists be escorted on its grounds violates the First Amendment. Defense officials pushed back, calling the suit an effort to bypass safeguards meant to prevent unlawful disclosure of classified information. "The Department's policy is completely lawful and narrowly designed to protect national security information," Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said.
