Clare Waight Keller, then artistic director of Givenchy, was chosen for her tailoring and understated elegance. Meghan specifically wanted a female, British designer and worked privately with Waight Keller for about five months to create a modest, timeless look.
The gown featured a bateau neckline, three-quarter sleeves, a triple silk organza underskirt and was paired with a 16-foot veil. A team of roughly 50 artisans at the Givenchy and Lesage ateliers spent about 3,900 hours completing the ensemble.
