McKnight sued in Georgia on April 21, claiming defamation, false light, intentional infliction of emotional distress and other harms. He says interviews and posts portrayed him as an uncaring father who refused to tell his dying son he loved him — an allegation he calls untrue and especially harmful.
The complaint says Julie McKnight left a voice message asking Brian not to contact Niko, and he honored that request. It also notes a 2014 settlement that bars the pair from speaking negatively about each other; McKnight alleges Julie breached that pact by giving public interviews to hosts named in the filing. He contends some interviews were monetized online and that outlets including the New York Post amplified the claims, causing financial and reputational damage.
